College Hill Mom is on a distinguished road
Default Which elementary school will my child attend?

I've searched the USD 259 site and can't find an answer there. We recently moved to the 'lower end' of College Hill - the area between Hillside and Grove, south of Central, north of Lincoln. College Hill Elementary is just up 2nd street, maybe 7 blocks from our home. I've been assuming that my daughter would attend College Hill but I've been told she may not. Hyde Elementary is close-by also, but College Hill is closer. Does anyone know of an online source for mapping of schools according to residence/address? She has autism and it's crucial that she attend the best school for special needs and I've learned that College Hill is one of the best in the city. Since she's a special needs child she can go wherever we want to send her but she can't ride the bus if it's out of our area - if a transfer is required, and I really need her to ride the bus, what with gas prices being as they are.

Thanks in advance.

I remember that school! I didn't realize it wasn't there anymore. I was on my way to work last week and saw that they've torn down my old elementary school. Kind of sad.

I sure do wish there was a way to find out online where your child goes to school. Again, if anyone knows of a site or a way to find out, please let me know. I'd call but I suppose it's safe to assume that no one is in the office at this time of year.

Last time I saw it, the building was still there but I think it was some kind of private school and the play ground now has homes sitting on it.

If you're not too far north of Kellogg between Grove and Hillside, I think you'll probably go to College Hill. South of Kellogg, you'd go to Linwood. I believe Hyde is a traditional magnet but I don't recall whether it's a neighborhood magnet or not.

There is a map at

Sedgwick County, Kansas Geographic Information Services*::*

which is found from usd259.com in the green header bar under Parents & Students then drop down to School Assignments by Address. Darn things can be hard to find!

Hope it helps!

Edit: Sorry, I didn't know how this board would handle url's.

Thank you for your replies. I took a chance and emailed staff at USD 259, not expecting a reply until enrollment time was closer. Turns out that we are zoned for Washington Elementary. Looks like I will be putting in for a special needs transfer, as my daughter's heart is set on "going to college" when she is finished with Rainbows United summer camp.

Thanks again.

Dram,

Thank you for posting this link! I can find out all kinds of things with this site. I checked and yes, it's right there - we are in the Washington district.

Cool page. Thank you!

Talking school districts

If you go to usd259.com you can look up which specific school district is yours by your address. Here is the link. School Assignments by address

I had to find ours recently. I also live in the college hill area.
Hope this helps!
