After my divorce three yrs ago, I bought a double wide contract-for-deed. I thought the people were really nice. I soon found out differently. I make my payments, but they are always harrassing me. For example, they said they would pay the insurance for 1 year. Within 6 months, they were wanting me to start making their insurance payments. I wanted to find my own. I have written them and told them that they are making me crazy, but now they falsely filed a small claims suit for May's payment. I sent them a copy of the bank statements. I have requested copies of the checks from my bank also. Is there anything I can do to get them to stop, short of paying off the house? Oh, on the court form, he speculated that I would not make June's payment either. It is July and all have been made. Isn't that some form of slander?

Run, do not slow down, straight to the Attorney Generals Office. They will straighten that out for you quickly. There are very specific landlord tenant laws in Kansas, and the AG will enforce those with a vengeance.
If you are in the good, you could request that your payments be made into an escrow where it is logged. He can get in a lot of trouble for not keeping good records, and falsely accusing you. |

Are you in a position now to get a real loan? If so and you really want to commit to living in a double wide, get a mortgage and get out from under them.
this is why you need a really tight contract and someone to interpret it for you. |
