Lawrence ks.
They have a website on the town as well. I live in Lawrence and can give you loads of info if you'd like. PM me and I can give you links to apts, etc. I don't think I can post them here.

Lawrence KS is accepting of gays and has a decent gay population. The University is here and the area a relatively liberal...the most liberal in the entire state. There are too many apartment complexes to list here and the housing prices are very very reasonable in my opinion...but I am originally from New York where the cost of living is very high, so it's all relative.
Lawrence KS is visually beautiful and is thriving in the arts. We have theaters and clubs that play live music. It is about an hour to Kansas City and their night life as well.
If you have any other specific questions about the town, please let me know. I will be more than happy to help out. No one in Lawrence will even blink if you tell them you're gay. Hope this helps.

Kc
Kansas City is also a very gay friendly area. I have lived in KC all my life i am 24 and a 5th generation here in town. I live in KCK but have family all over the kc area. IT's a very nice place i mean we have the excitement of a large metro but still have our own space here were not crowed too much like new york or other major towns. KC Mo has an awesome gay pride if your thinking of moving or just want to see the gay community i suggest you make it to this years pride in KC. It's always the first weekend in June. starts friday night as a block party usually then continues saturday and sunday at liberty memorial with all day events. So come enjoy your self here have fun there are also many other gay events thruout the KC aera thought out the year but thats the big one there is also the out in westport festival and such.

I was reading on another site that the 66202 ZIP Code is "one of the gayest ZIP Codes in Kansas". I think it was in the Top Five. That ZIP Code includes most of Mission, far north Overland Park, and a small part of Merriam. Mission is somewhat accepting by Kansas standards, but Lawrence has to be the gayest city in Kansas.

Some places it depends on if you're male or female.I live in Great Bend,Ks.We have more lesbians I think, than gay men,but it seems that lesbians are a little more accepted .

Lesbians are more pleasing to the eye to watch out in public since women have always been more affectionate to each other anyway.
Men doing same just seems weird. To each his own and not dissing anyone.

To chime in to the Lawrence chorus, that would probably be your safest bet. However, Kansas City also has some fairly progressive areas (notably Westport and the general Plaza region); plus, it's a big enough city that you should fit in pretty well.
