Hello Kansans (and others). I have something of a problem.

I live in a small town in SE Kansas. I am getting married in October and to make up for all my days of staying in when I should've gone out, we are planning a weekend-long bachelorette party excursion. The problem is, I don't know enough about the bigger cities around me to plan such things.

Here's what we're looking for:

Live music (jazz, blues, or softer rock) Edit: or a show of some kind. Like a ballet. Something high class since I seldom get the chance to dress up.
A bar (or bars...) with tasty as well as decently priced drinks
Stippers are optional, though as I've never been to a strip club, it might be an experience worth having.
Last but not least, a hotel within pretty close proximity to one or all of these places so we can reduce the temptation to drink and drive. Walkable distance would be great, but if not, I suppose someone's gonna hafta suck it up and be a DD.

We're looking at Tulsa, Wichita, KC, Joplin or somewhere's else within a 3 hr drive of Parsons.

Thanks all!

Sam

I think that you should check out a stay at one of the downtown hotels in KC MO near the Power and Light District. That should pretty much meet your needs.

Also, just check for concerts etc. going on they have musicals, comedians all kinds of things around that area as well.

There are tons and tons of bars with great live music throughout that area. Hotel phillips has live music of high quality on Saturday nights.

So just do some googling on the above and have fun!

sam, i'd have to agree with mathguy... KC is probably your best bet overall. downtown wichita, old town, could be okay, but KC's Power & Light District puts most of what you want right there - if you can afford the hotel prices - or at most a short cab ride. for example, knucklehead's saloon is a great venue for blues and alt acts, but it's not where you want to drive if you've not been there before. it is northeast of downtown - maybe 10 minutes or so. the Crossroads area - just south of downtown is an easy drive, or another short cab ride, and there are many other clubs and venues.

be sure to check out what may be at the Midland Theater on the dates you'd be here, or the Music Hall, and KC Live (P&L district).

An alternative would be the Plaza area where you have good shopping, several clubs (Jardine's in particular for mostly jazz acts), numerous restaurants, and again a relatively short cab ride to other areas such as Westport (Beaumont Club - wide variety of acts there).

Crossroads is basically between downtown and Crown Center, with Westport a bit further south from there, and the Plaza south of Westport. it's all pretty convenient.

as mathguy noted, do some googling and have fun.

a note on hotels... i don't the current rates, but the Hilton President is very nice, as is the Phillips. both recently renovated.
