Default Moving to Andover or Wichita, help please.

My wife and myself are thinking of moving to Wichita, Half because of work, there seems to be a lot of opportunity there.
From where we are moving, we love it so much, but after building here, it is a bit of retirement community. Not a lot of work opportunity here. We also have family in Wichita. I have looked at moving to Andover before, homes are what they are, not to bad priced but you have to watch for the specials, and HOA dues.
I was told the last time I looked by my Realtor to stay in Andover, She said that she would not live in Wichita to save her life.
Is there a section of Wichita [I would like to stay in the east side.] or subdivision that are as good as Andover? Not sure what to do. I keep looking in Andover and there does not seem to be a lot for sale. On the other hand it seems that Wichita has a lot for sale. I like College hill area but when we looked off of Dougless road where the homes are so quaint, she told me that I would need an alarm system because of all the break ins. Could you people who liver there give me the real story, no inflated either way, just the truth? thanks.

When we were in Wichita, we did look at Derby, my wife liked it. It seemed like it had some nice places. How is the resale? What areas are better than others?

I lived in College Hill for a short time,Im not really aware of alot of break-ins.
The thing about Wichita is neighborhoods can be a bit dodgy.
You may have a run-down ghetto area not far from a upper class area.
If i could afford it,my choices in Wichita would be Riverside or College Hill.
The Suburbs are good IMO but i found Park City to be really ugly(no offense).

I don't know about resale... I do know that when my sister and her family moved back to Ks. from Phoenix (Surprise, actually) a few years ago, her husband insisted they live somewhere that had good resale values, and they ended up buying in Derby. It seems like a very clean community. If we moved the the Wichita area, we'd probably choose Derby.

Eastside- We live in the area bounded by Rock, 21st, Woodlawn and 29th, under 200K for the most part. Waterford/Sycamore Village. Pretty nice and quiet, close to everything. Then there is the Tallgrass area. Then it seem to get pricier from there.Water is expensive in Bel Air, so I have been told.
College Hill some pretty cool older housea...sort of hit or miss. NO offense to any one there.....some homes are well maintained and others are not. Cheaper to way expensive...
if it were me I woudl want to be in the nicest place I could afford, that is closest to where I will be working.

Default Get a new realtor

I have lived in California, Utah, Idaho, Missouri, and Nevada. None have been as good as Wichita. Honestly, I would get a new realtor. She clearly has no idea what she's talking about. MSNBC as well as several other media outlets recently rated Wichita one of the top ten places to live in the entire NATION. She wouldn't live there to save her life? What does she know that 400,000 of us do not? Andover is dull and boring. I live in the Harrison Park area of East Wichita and absolutely love it. Schools are top notch, nicest neighbors I've ever lived next to and home prices are amazing. The Pebblebrook development on South Webb is very nice as well. The quaint Douglas neighborhoods you were talking about are beautiful. I know several people that live there and have never heard of a single break-in in my life. Take a look at the city crime data and see for yourself. Very safe. My advice, ditch your no-nothing realtor and find a great deal in Wichita. Best place I've ever lived.
