I'm not sure what the big deal is... I live in Kansas City and while I think it is a great city I really don't understand why people hate on Wichita so much. Wichita has museums and culture just like any other city. I realize that KC has pro sports and is bigger but to me that's about where the differences end. And if seeing a sporting event is something you really want to do you can see minor league hockey baseball and arena football. (before I get attacked I realize that NFL is a little different than Arena2) I'm just saying... and Branson? don't get me wrong but why would someone that is going to Wichita on business drive 4 hrs to Branson? Should you go there however I'd recommend trout fishing at Lilley's Landing on Taneycomo good stuff. Anyway I've gotten off track but the point is it seems like there are an awfull lot of people on these forums that go out of there way to knock on places that 1 they really don't know much about or 2 just hope to make their average little town seem like the cats pajamas. (that's right I used that phrase I felt like I was getting a little too serious so I thought I'd lighten the mood a little)

Old town is ok for about 1 hour, then you get sick of the drunks and people in line to get 10$ for plasma, or churches giving out food. I would skip Wichita and go directly to Branson, about 240 miles to the east. Much more beautiful, hills and a thousand things to do. Hundreds of shows, and the hotels are around 32 a night. I would spend a week there before I would spend one night in Wichita. Go north 180 miles and spend some time in KC, ten times the things to do there and many fun. Wichita LMAO.

Do you work for the Wichita Tourism and Convention Board?

I kind of like Wichita. I could never live there, it's simply way to small, and I pretty much don't like Kansas in general (life is too short to live in Kansas outside of metro KC).
I have to be within 15 minutes of a major metro area. I barely get by in the KC area. It's just barely large enough to satisfy my personal needs.
But you can spend a weekend there and its' a pleasant city with the river front walkways and bridges, the museums and historic areas.
Does Boeing or Cessna offers tours of their assembly plants?

Saying why do people dump on Wichita when you live in KC is like a person from Beverly Hills saying why do the poor people complain so much? You live in a city that has a lot to do and does not have every Christian come out of the wood work every time something fun wants to come to town and vote it out of gods land. Wichita could be a place that brings in people for conventions, and other gatherings. But instead of doing this they voted out a casino, and act like they are holding the cross and doing a march for the second coming. This type of thinking brought us W. if that is not enough to make you want to puke you are hopelessly lost in the neocon thinking or lack of thinking.

I never said I hated Wichita. It's just too small for my taste. It's not bigger than New Orleans, the city pop might be, but that doesn't mean jack. Ever been to New Orleans? Even after Catrina, it has well over a million people.

First off, KCMO I know that you weren't hating on Wichita, so no hard feelings there. In regards to me living in KC area. I realize that I don't live there (Wichita) but I have spent a lot of time there throughout my life. I'm a somewhat new Kansas Citian where as I know much more about Wichita then it would seem. I realize there are things that are frustrating, however it seems many people in Wichita that look down on themselves don't realize just how many good things they have going for them.(This includes both parties) Every city has problems but I just get tired of hearing so many negative comments. To quote my college football coach "be big where you're at."

There are things to do in Wichita and there could be more things to do in Wichita if it weren't for the attitudes of Wichitans. I'm not thrilled with the idea of casinos, contrary to talbet, but I agree with him that there are a lot of opportunities here people don't capitalize on because the professed Christian fundamentalism of the area makes everything remotely "intellectual" or "nuanced" or "free thinking" evil - or the work of Satan - or the battle between good and evil in which more often that not their God is defeated.
-I'm sorry, explain how "Almighty God" ALWAYS falls to Satan??? It just makes no sense. These people pray for parking spaces and when they don't get them turn the entire experience into a diatribe about good versus evil - and how God is losing the battle. I'm sorry but, give me a break. These people are not even in touch with reality. The community suffers from it. Wichita, and the state of Kansas, will never experience positive growth culturally, socially, ideologically, and eventually economically as long as people who could bring hese new opportunities to the state take one look at us and realize we're a bunch of empty-headed fanatics.

Are there people that would actually wish to see an airplane factory?
