Wichita could be a place that brings in people for conventions, and other gatherings. But instead of doing this they voted out a casino, and act like they are holding the cross and doing a march for the second coming. This type of thinking brought us W. if that is not enough to make you want to puke you are hopelessly lost in the neocon thinking or lack of thinking.
Kansas City and Wichita are much different. Kansas City is much larger both in land mass and population. I think KC is about 2 million people or so in the metro area. And much of Wichita could fit inside of KCK in land area. In fact alot of it could probably fit inside Swope Park! Kansas City has some of the best culture, food and activity you could ask for. It really is "a city" in every way. Wichita is NOT ever going to be the city KC is no matter if they have gaming or not. Wichita is just not a "convention" city really. That is not Wichita's fault so much as the fact that Wichita does not have the population to support decent air service and you have to have decent air service to have conventions on a regular basis.
On the other hand Wichita has more a cozy "small town" feeling to it. People in Wichita are nicer, Wichita is a cleaner city and has much less crime and mayhem than KC has. I don't know about now but back in the 80s, prostitutes worked the streets of downtown KC openly every night! And 12th street in Quality Hill was a dump of sleaze joints, dope dealers and winos. I know it has been cleaned up but Wichita never had things like that nor would Chief LaMunyon ever allowed such things. And the schools in Wichita are 100 times better than those in KC proper and as good as those in the KC suburbs for the most part. Living in large metro areas does have advanatges for sure but for somebody raised in Wichita, there are things I really miss about it too.

Or go to Exploration Place, WAM, the Ulrich Museum on WSU campus. There are many find restaurants, lots of down home cooking. During the right time of the year, Botanica is spectacular. The zoo is great fun too. If you like loud bars with even louder 25 year olds yelling and acting like 12 year olds, then there's plenty of that too.

Not much to do in Wichita. Only one museum, in old town. Some nice bars in old town. Drive to Kansas City and hit the casino.

Who says the religious kept casinos in Wichita? It was the young professionals who voted to keep casinos out of downtown Wichita. They had petitions for people to sign. They did not want to have drunks walking around the downtown streets when they have to park and walk to their jobs. So it had very little to do with any religious feeling but the young professionals who kept it out. So go to KC for your gambling, we like it to stay out of here so we can enjoy what we have.
