Some days here I can hardly breathe because its so cold. It actually hurts to breathe, lol.

is that the case in Lexena?

Also is Lexena a safe area?
I grew up in Northern Illinois and the winters here are a joke. I almost never wear a heavy winter coat and when it snows it usually doesn't stay on the ground for more than a week or so tops. (That statement alone should tell you everything.) The July and August months are typically miserably hot and humid but thats the tradeoff for having a winter that lasts about 8 weeks or so.

It's safe. Typical upper-middle class suburb, the occasional robbery and once in a while there is a killing but it's pretty rare and crime is well below the natl. average.

Housing - Might want to look at getting a place within walking distance of your office or just a super short drive. There are tons of apts. along 87th street etc.

If you are single, it might be a bit boring but you can drive to plenty of fun places in 15-20minutes.

My personal preference is to live close to work and then I can drive further to go out when needed.

Misc. -
1) There are some NICE walking\bike paths that go for dozens of miles throughout the area.
2) Shawnee Mission Park is nice. You can get there in about 5 minutes from Lenexa.

Winter temperatures are highly variable in the Central Plains. However, winters have been getting warmer everywhere due to climate change. It was not uncommon at all for the KC metro area to record temperatures colder than -10F in the outlying areas at least one time per winter several decades ago. Now, the coldest lows will likely be in the -10F to 0F range. The average lows during the coldest months will be in the 15 to 20F range. The northwoods generally have lows at least 10F colder during the core winter months.
