Hello to all. I'm in the same boat as Frederick and it's about to capsize unless I can get out of here!!! But really, as Fred said, houses in Ca. are crazy expensive and you get a fixer upper on a postage sized lot in a questionable neighborhood for $500,000 if you're lucky! Can anyone tell me about the weather in s/e Kansas? A realtor w/whom I'm speaking tells me it is not too humid and winters are cold but not cabin fever cold and there can be or may not be snow...varies. I can take it all but intense humidity...hate it!! Otherwise, I'm on the same page as Frederick..gotta get outa here ... fast!

Do you have a dewpoint in mind that you consider is starting to annoy you?

Dewpoints, not the relative humidity tell you how thick the air feels. I don't really feel humidity when there's a strong breeze blowing, and I heard in Kansas, the wind rarely stops blowing so perhaps it might be humid somedays but still not really noticeable. I like studying climates in my spare time.

Hi ColdCanadian. boy, I don't know the first thing about dew points...all I know is that it is relatively dry in California (n. above SF about 50 miles) and it is terribly humid in places such as Texas (Beaumont, ie) and Florida and St. Louis, MO. So, maybe you can tell me, in layman's terms; how does S.E. KS (near Okla. border) compare w/that? Thank you, again, for any information you might be able to share. I have talked w/lots of people online, realtors, etc. and I've heard conflicting reports...I can stand Colorado type weather (lived there in several areas and LOVED it). kathy

I did some research on Independence and Wichita KS. It seems both places the air is a little drier and windier than St. Louis, but neither of those places in KS will resemble anything like Colorado. Have you been to San Diego CA? It seems to be fairly humid there compared to the rest of CA in summer. Both places in KS are noticebly, but not drastically more humid and windy than San Diego. It'd probably be a noticeable improvement from somewhere like Dallas TX. (I had to go by the RH%; they didn't list dewpoints)

I checked out two places in northern CA, Santa Rosa and Sacremento. I was surprised to notice that according to the averages, the dewpoints seem to stay the same year round, probably in the 30's F. San Diego looks like it gets dewpoints in the 50's and possibly low 60's F in summer. (by the coast) It'd probably be best for you to take a trip mid-summer to Kansas to see how you feel about it before you decide to move.

Thanks again CC...if the temps and dew points are similar in s/e Ks as in San Diego then I am very happy. San Diego is gorgeous! I appreciate your good information and take a mid summer visit under serious advisement. I may be going in Nov. to get a feel for that time of year, too (which is my favorite). Oh, and it's probably closer to Dallas type wind/humidity than San Diego, but still better than Dallas.

Well, I made my reservations to visit Kansas in mid October; the soonest I could arrange to be away. We'll be exploring several areas; hoping for the best. I'll post my feelings and observations; though these will be based on a kind of "drive by" experience of Kansas. I know I'll be able to see the beauty and lack of crazy Caifornia crowding there; which is of ultimate importance. I'll keep everyone posted. Kathy
