Default Why so many male teachers?

I'm an education student in Arkansas (also a guy) and I recently did a report on male teacher recruitment in various states. I found that Kansas had the highest number of male teachers in the United States by a wide margin. Can anyone tell me why that is? Higher pay, maybe? I remember living in Nebraska and housing and property taxes were double and triple what they are in Central Arkansas right now, so I probably can't afford to move there to take a job, but I'm just really curious as to why Kansas has all the other states beat by such a wide margin. Random note, but Arkansas is either last or next to last in male teacher recruitment and retention.
