Question Wanting to move closer to Gardner like Spring Hill

Hi my Husband and I are looking to move closer to Gardner because he works up there. We live in Ottawa and we have a small son. I was wondering how good the school was in Spring Hill, he will be starting school soon. I don't really want to live IN Gardner seems a bit bigger then I want. I was wondering if anyone had any helpful info about the area. About the Businesses, the housing, school, how high is the cost of living. How are the people, not trying to be mean but are the people friendly in the town. all in all is it a nice place. I've been there once so I don't really know what is in the town and haven't talk to anyone there. thanks so much for your help and time.

Hi, I live in Gardner right now and about to move to Overland Park (closer to work and school). Spring Hill is fairly small but it is expanding. It has a small-town feel. The schools are becoming better. My principal in High School transfered to their new High School down there and I have seen him once and he has said it's definitely a big change for him. (Mind you our high school was 2,200 kids grades 9-12). You won't even see the k-12 that big.... yet. That is pretty much all I know about Spring Hill. You can also try Edgerton (west of Gardner), it's smaller but I think they also are along the Gardner boundary lines for school since the HS is Gardner-Edgerton High School. Also look into Wellsville. Hope this helps slightly. Good luck.

I would also look at De Soto in western JOCO. It is located right along K-10 west of Lenexa.

A nice small town west of that area is Baldwin City in Douglas County. It has a small local College there and around 5000 people. It has a nice laid back feel with friendly people. It is also a little bit removed from that massive intermodal hub in Gardner. However, I am unsure about how it would impact nearby towns like Baldwin.

Default Inside Tip

Don't move to Gardner, It's going to get crazy there in a few years, thanks to the railroad.
Spring Hill is not as big or heavy in traffic.
Are you wanting to rent or buy. I live in between Spring Hill & Gardner. Love the location. Email Me back G.grammie@gmail.com. I'll try to help find you a few places.
Gogrammie.

TinaMcG will become famous soon enough
We live four miles north of Spring Hill and I do my grocery shooping there, go to their farmers market every summer and we're thinking of using the vet across from our favorite BBQ place. But that's really about all there is in Spring Hill. It seriously needs a facelift and some planning to make it a place where people want to live and shop. There really doesn't seem to be anything there. It could be a really charming little town.

Be careful what you wish for. With the intermodal plant being built in Gardner and the probability of the NAFTA Superhighway coming in along nearby I-35 growth will likely explode in the surrounding areas. Spring Hill will probably increase by 50% every 5-10 years if recent trends hold up. One of the reasons why I left JOCO was because it had gotten too crowded and MUCH too pro-growth for my tastes.

I now live in Merrimack County, New Hampshire which is home to a micropolitan city (Concord). The job market here is good, and it is a short drive to the coast, Manchester, Boston region, Lakes, and Mountains.
