LeavingDodge is on a distinguished road
We live on nw of dodge outside of city limits. It is safe here, but it isn't the best place to live. DON"T send your kids to any school in dodge if you want them to have any intellegence. Send them to Cimarron, excellent schools. You will feel safe with your kids there, the teachers are awesome and the admin is also great. We drive our kids 15 miles to go to school there. As far as the hospital, it is getting better it was just a chopping block. But it has changed hands just a few months ago, so it is better.
They are building a casino here now, which isn't good cause this town isn't set up for growth. Too many criminals in city offices, the police officers are a joke. Just call them some time about a gang activity and they will want you to watch and tell them what is going on or to follow the person. Unbelievable. We are moving from here, it isn't overall what we want for our kids. Illegals are bad too, when you go to walmart you will feel like you are in little mexico.

Smile Moving to Dodge

I have lived in Dodge City most of my life and I have not had any trouble with gangs or being afraid being out side and doing things. All towns have their bad guys, but I believe Dodge City has a lot of good guys.
I heard Beeson School is about the most progressive school, it is in the South part of town, and we have a brand new school up north, named Ross.
We don't have many shopping places, no Target Store but Garden City has one and it is about 45 minutes away.
We have lots of good restaraunts and a lot of nice churches to attend.
If you come here,I think you will like it! There is a lot of good people living here and I think you will meet many new friends.
God Bless you and your family,

We are a family that are about to move to Dodge City in November. We have to because of my husbands work. I have become very concerned about what a town it will be. Crimes, drugs, bad Schools etc that I have read here. Please give me some strong information about the city.

- Names of good neighborhoods. North safer than south, west, east? Names??

- Possibilities to rent a house? Prices? Who to contact? If you try online, you only find that "nothing found in this area" when you put in a 3 bedroom house to rent!

- Good elementary School?? My daughter is in first grade, and I really want her education to stay on top. I was checking the scores online for some of the Schools, and Central Elementary School for instance only reached 28/100 in the US statistic!! That's scary!! Please give me names!!

- What about the crimes? A lot of people have commented on that it's an unsafe place, and lots of gangs and crimes. Are you safe to drive around? Are you safe to walk your child to School? Are you safe to play in the playgrounds and parks?

- What about the immigrants? We don't speak Spanish, but do they live in a certain area or where? Which Schools to avoid??

- What about the health care? We would love to have another child during these 3 years that we will live there. Experiences anyone? Which hospital is the best?? Pediatrics? Dentists? Anyone with Tricare experience?

- Shopping. I hear that there is one Wal-Mart. What about Home Depot, Target, Sears, etc etc?? They must have more than just a Wal-Mart, right?

- What about the Tornadoes? How often do they occur? Once a summer, once a month, once a week?? Do people then evacuate? Stay in their basements?

- What about the smell everyones writes about? Is it really that bad?? Can you get used to it? Does it come in the houses too?

We won't have a choice and we won't be able to fly in there and have a look around before we move, so any information would be helpful. Please just don't say stay out of there, because it's not helping when you have to go!! I need to gain as much information as possible.

Thank you so much, any information is most welcome!! Right now I just feel very helpless and unhappy about the move..
Liz

This is a crappy place to live, my family and I have decided to move to Greeley, Colorado. Its such a beautiful town, it has a diverse population but has so much more than Dodge City. Dodge City will never be anything. I totally agree with the other post about the police here, they are a joke. I will be gone by July 1st.
