I think that some new industry is going in by the Lecompton exit west of Lawrence on the Kansas Turnpike. Lawrence proposed an "island annexation" of that particular area a few months back, but I am unsure of what the result has been or if any companies/jobs will come to that particular area. If you want a more rural feel I would suggest buying a little further away from the Interstate.
