gang activity/violence?
I am looking to move in the town of Derby. I was wondering what the gang violence in that area was, if any.

The gangs in Derby are really horrible. Every year the FFA and the 4H rumble at the county fair over who has the best looking farm animal!

I know you're being sarcastic, but on the flip-side, Derby and farm animals? Uh...

To your question there are no gang problems.
Derby is mostly upper middle class & military folks.
The Derby Police will follow a middle aged guy in a mini-van so...
I doubt a Criminal would get away with much.
Im not saying there might not be a few wanna-be's but Derby has NO gang problem.

Plenty of wannabes, around Wichita/Sedgwick county with their bling and baggy ass pants. But I venture to guess if they ran into the real mccoy they' d be running home and crying to mama. Compared to Atlanta and Miami, it's kinda like a sunday school picnic here

Both Atlanta and Miami are also 8 times large than Wichita population-wise. Compare Wichita to smaller cities, and it's the other way around. It's all relative.

You're more likely to run in to white supremacist-wanna-be attitudes in Derby than ethnic gang issues. (This is not uncommon for the smaller communities surrounding Wichita.) After years of racism of whites against blacks that resulted in a rule banning depictions of racist symbols, a white kid flashed a hand drawn Confederate flag that led to a law suit. The air base where some of the service men and women are ethnic minorities have had some struggles with the Derby school district that resulted in the Air Force officials and school officials having to have a series of meeting to deal with racial issues. (Derby also fired a coach who purposefully wouldn't place African-American students on a team. The community thinks that's a big secret even though there were never any black kids in the basketball team, so "Shhhhhh.") My parents in Wichita had neighbors who actually moved to Derby because "They don't like blacks there." I thought it was sad the parents were teaching those kinds of attitudes to their children who were elementary age, but it's not like I had a say in the matter.
The exception to the question about gangs may still be the Oaklawn area north of Derby where there are a lot of good people, but because the property values there (historically) are low you see a lot of social problems. The Oaklawn community has worked very, extremely hard to turn around the neighborhood and keep some of the less desirable residents out.

Not the gangs you have to worry about, it's the serial killers!
