Thumbs down I was born and raised in Kansas

That said, I'm now 60 -- almost 61 and I have always hated and will always hate the cold winters, the hot humid summers, and spring down pouring rains, fall forgetting to come or last it's term and running into winter again. but most of all the wind that hardly ever quits blowing. I've left here many times, but always seems somthing happens and for one reason or the other I end up right back here. Now I can't afford to move away, so I'm stuck here. But Bless my childrens hearts, if I die here, they have sworn to take my ashes out of this state to anywhere that they won't end up back here. I have good friends here, I have not so good family and past friends here. Most small towns in Kansas have good friendly people. But that's people not Kansas. You have the good and bad of people no matter where you go. It's the weather I hate and most people hate Kansas weather. But if you live in Kansas you deal with it in your own way.

I love Kansas! And I love JoCo! I was happy as could be living in JoCo. Low crime, low cost of living, beautiful parks, great public schools, lots of good restaurants, only 18 miles to all the great venues in KCMO, casinos w/in easy drive, above average healthcare and hospitals . . . When it snows, streets are quickly cleaned and driveable . . . nice airport . . . wonderful housing . . .greenways all over . . . KU w/in driving distance . . .

As far as the OZ thing - just go with it! I find it charming and enjoyed playing on it . . . and still do! I am an NC native and moved back here to Charlotte b/c of DH's job and even tho I love it here and have family here, I had to be pulled kicking and screaming from Kansas. Yes, the summers can be breath-takingly hot . . . and yes, the winters can get bitterly cold . . . but as long as you have a A/C and a garage and warm clothing . . .it isn't that big of a deal.

Love the history of the area . . . and miss it all very much, especially this time of year. SO beautiful w/ Christmas lights reflecting in the snow . . .

I don't miss the blandness, conformity, constant winds, and very conservative politics of KS at all. The advantage of growing up in KC was that you really could travel to many locations across the country at relatively cheap prices (this was many years ago). I had always wanted to move out of KC eventually, but it took some time to get a job lined up at a new location- as well as the motivation to actually move there.

I have said this many times before:
Kansas is a very good place to grow up in (Eg: JOCO), but not a good place for single people/ and those seeking specialized types of employment. Kansas offers an affordable COL, especially the larger metros.

Default What I Dislike About Kansas

I dislike former residents of Kansas that repeatedly bash Johnson County and the state of Kansas! Let go! You made the decision to move to find happiness, and I wish each and every one of you nothing but the best! Many of us actually enjoy living in Kansas, (and CHOOSE to live here) warts and all!

I live in Jericho Kansas, after the Nuclear strikes on the 18 cities, we were cut off from the rest of the country. Our neighboring town actually tried to take our land, and launched mortors at us. Eventually an army stopped the whole thing, but they turned out to be fighting for another soverign country, and were just a brutal as the neighboring town. My dad, the Former Mayor was killed by gun fire from the other town.

I like Kansas. It's open space, you can see forever and the people are nice. Nice as in if you are stuck in the snow they stop to help dig you out. Not many places like it anymore.

Kansas has tons of outdoor activities if you are not so stuck to your Nintendo Lite to figure it out. Think Canyons, not Mts.

Too bad your town was canceled.

although I grew up in smallville Kansas, I dont' think I was born there, my parents, who don't look anything like me, said I was born far away from there. I liked life on the farm, except for all the meteor freaks. I have friends chloe and Lana. They constantly need me to save them. All I got for christmas is red shirts and blue denim jackets. My step dad got killed by some dude named Luthor, and my mom ran away to become a US senator. I work at the local paper with all the folks I went to highschool with.
