There is something liberating about the landscape around the airport. I always enjoyed driving back home to Lenexa from the airport after a trip . . . kinda zen . . .

So you see . . . same place, but very different reaction. People tell me they love it here in Charlotte, where I live now, b/c of all the huge trees . . . and I sometimes feel like I am going to CHOKE w/ all these big trees around me - and never really seeing the horizon . . .
I'm in PV where there are lots of trees and I hate that I can't see the full moon sitting on my porch because of all the trees! I like trees but I also like wide open spaces. My goal someday is to have a house with an obstructed view to the west so I can see Kansas storms approaching. I love to to watch storms.

As a side note, DH and I went to Phoenix once and he HATED it; said it was too noisy. He finally figured out that it was due to the fact that there were no trees that blocked sound. The traffic going by, and anything else that made sound, was really loud to him. I probably would have never noticed that, but he did. I loved Phoenix, not because of trees or lack of trees, but because it was warm in November and we sat outside and ate a pizza and there were no mosquitos, no flies, no bugs swarming our food.

The KC area is loaded with trees, the only parts of KC that really flatten out and have few trees it southern and southwestern johnson county and parts of southern jackson county. There are some bare spots by KCI, but for the most part, the area is covered with trees. As you go southwest out of the city, it gets flat and is mostly farmland. That is one of the main reasons the city grew SW, the path of least resistance. The MO side is full of river valleys, rolling hills, flood plains, rock, lakes and forests. It's not as easy to develop.

Last time I was in Kansas, my house got picked up and twirled in the air, A green witch was in the way I guess, and our house pulverized her. I was so trippin. I thought I landed in this place with about 300 midgets all singing about lollipops, or guilds or something.

.
Well, most people DESIRE treed neighborhoods, and the real estate agents I have talked with in the past have said that it definitely does increase the general neighborhood property values if the streets and yards are lined with shade trees.
I would NEVER NEVER consider buying a property that lacked trees. It would be much too depressing to wait 25 years just to have mature trees again.

I'm not saying I dislike trees. I just like to have a full view of the moon sometimes and I definitely would like to have a clear view to the west to watch storms coming. But I like trees! And we have an abundance of them!

Alrighty then, you can buy our house! I hate to see storms approaching, and we have 360 degrees of unobstructed views, three acres, and a big beautiful arts and crafts style house that withstood 70mph winds last Saturday morning. On the other hand, lots of trees would mean worrying about them landing on our roof.

I think we should drag kcmo to Allen Field House one of these days for a basketball game. We'd have him waving the wheat by halftime!

Oh, and you KU alums - was there such a thing as a Mass Street Run (not a race) when you were at KU? It was a tradition when I was there; my kids are at KU now and had no idea what I was talking about.
