Oops - this is supposed to be a thread about what we LIKE about Kansas. Hmmm... Cloudy rainy days. Even if they are far and few between.

To me sun = life. I feel ALIVE when the sun is bright and the days are warm. Nothing better to me than feeling the sun on my skin. I just get through the winter the best I can. I can tolerate and even enjoy a cloudy day now and then, but hopefully not more than a day or two at a time. Give me sun and warmth!

I actually prefer partly cloudy days with indirect solar radiation (at a low angle). It is the sunny days with direct intense solar radiation that I dislike greatly. I don't think I could ever live in the sunbelt because of this. Other people like hot climates. To each his/her own.

My favorite thing about Kansas is the people, without question. Back in Chicago, as friends and family moved away, I began to think it was not possible to make good friends once you reached middle age. People held each other at arms length for some reason. Then we moved to Kansas and the people were so warm, so welcoming, so eager to make good solid friendships. I have about a half dozen really close friends here in Kansas and I belong to a master gardeners organization that includes 350 really nice friendly people. You can't get much luckier than that, IMO.

hands down: Kansas Sunsets (I"ve never seen any better including a Hawaiian Sunset at sunset beach)
Scenery (For the most part its subtle but there are so many different areas most people even many Kansans don't see. ex. Flint Hills, Eastern Kansas woodlands and hills, Red Hills Looks like the Southwest the Smoky Hills, Wetlands and even the flatlands around Wichita and way out west. It's there that you can see the best skies around.
The people: Sure like any state we have our problems but it's tough to find nicer people and in many places quite diverse groups.
History: Often Kansas is viewed as a non progressive state when in reality Kansas has been a leader in progressive ideologies since before we were even a state: Slavery, progressive politics, Aviation, desegregation and many more.
Anyway, these are just a few reasons of why I love Kansas

My fathers family moved into Kansas when it was still a territory. We have yet to find a reason to leave.

Kansas is very mild in the winter compared to the Great Lakes and Midwest!

Simply put. Quality of Life. I grew up in Kansas and moved away for about 7 years. I moved back 2 years ago, and I think I have spent more time with my kids in 6 months than I did the previous 3 years. I wouldn't raise my kids anwhere else.

good and bad
I am from CA most my life and 6 yrs in Seattle. I love Kansas because there are NO crowds, or traffic, not as much crime, good place to raise a family. The one thing I really do not like is the high taxes! it is a pretty great place to live. People here are hermits, I kind of like that. We are home boddies, but like to travel. There are lots of places around KS and OK to camp, fish, hike, raft, rock climb etc...

I am a KU alum! The education system in Kansas is good, especially in JOCO and KU. However, Kansas is quite a bad place for single people.
