I live on the south end of Derby. I can basically see Mulvane from the top of my hill. I have only been to Mulvane a couple of times but it seems like a quaint little town.
Derby seems bigger and has some of the standard chain eateries and shopping that you would expect plus it's growing. Lots of stores going in along Rock Rd. I'm going to go to a place called Tokyo Steak house along there in about 30 minutes or so....I'll let you know how that goes (I sure am hungry. )
Also the schools in the suburbs seem to be pretty nice. We've got nothing but good things to say about our daughter's elementary school.

Wild West World went belly up because Thomas Etheredge was a guy with a criminal past who aligned himself with deposed, right-wing evangelical ideologue Terry Fox to create a subpar amusement park. People just weren't into their social agenda.

Where are the bike paths around Wichita? That's great; I didn't know there were any around the city!

But the silly people still voted against a Casino. Go figure. That would have brought more diversity and jobs to the area, and would have been a draw for more conventions. As it is I know of people who do not want to go to any conventions in Wichita because after the day is done, there is nothing to do. Vegas is offering so many discounts now why not go where the city does not sleep? They pulled a boner on that one big time. Rightwing Christians pushing agendas that are based on a 2000 year old myth, smart.

I live in an all electric house. 2000 sq ft. Finished basement. Avg bill is $90.00. Highest bill was during the ice storm... of $130.00
Be sure to look in the outlying towns, Belaire, Valley Center, Park City, Andover, Derby, Maize, Goddard... all 20 - 30 minutes to about any part of Wichita.

Very easy to get around there and can get anywhere in about twenty minutes. Jobs are hard to come by and the plane industries like Boeing and Cessna are always laying off people. The schools are good and people are quite nice. There are two malls; Towne East and Towne West, both are nice but you won't find any high-end stores in them. The city is growing both in the East Side and West Side. The east side is a little more expensive (I think). There are area's in the North to avoid and are not safe. The south part of town and the older neighborhoods are cheaper. KC is a great place to go visit as is Olka City. There are several lakes in the area if you like to camp and boat.

The zoo is getting better each year. We have the Gorilla exhibit, the penguins, the Rain Forest, the Australian area. We just added a larger tiger exhibit. Last year they added a restaurant.
Tanganika in Goddard is nice too.. you can even feed the animals.
