Kansas suspends income tax refunds
OMG...how can they do this then continue to take State Tax from your pay? Will they be suspending that as well? Doesn't seem fair to me. I live in Connecticut and hope this never happens here. I do feel bad for you.

I always owe Kansas tax when I file my return. I'm glad they don't owe ME. I wonder what they would say if I told them I was going to suspend my tax payments?

I'm with you. I owe KS every year, so this doesn't affect me. But income tax refunds are refunds because it is money that was NOT owed. Seems illegal for the state to keep money that is not rightfully theirs.
Also seems like the GOP is trying to strong-arm the governor. I have faith she will hold her ground, not be bullied, and figure out a way to fix the real problem.

I think the GOP is right. You can't borrow money from other places. They need to cut SPENDING, which is what the GOP is proposing. Simple math - you can't spend more than you have coming in. That's exactly what Sebelius is trying to do. She's been more worried about becoming part of Obama's cabinet than tending to the affairs of her own state. Personally, I wish she'd go be on his cabinet - GOOD RIDDANCE!
That's not to say that I think it's okay for Kansas workers not to be paid or for refund checks to be withheld. The GOP wants to make sure there is going to be money to pay back what is borrowed by the end of the fiscal year, June 30th. But that money to pay it back is nonexistent, which is why they don't want to do it.

Merrick said the Sebelius’ administration’s “sky is falling” scenario of state employees not getting paid, tax refunds being delayed and schools getting temporarily stiffed on scheduled state payments was merely political posturing to cover her inaction on the state’s budget crisis.
“There are other options available to her that she’s refused to exercise,” he said. “She’s known for months that we had a heck of a problem, and she’s done nothing to address it.”
And judging from the comments after this article: http://primebuzz.kcstar.com/?q=node/17145 I'm definitely not the only one who will be glad to see her go!

So Kansas is not going to be able to separate itself from the sinking of the rest of the country. Sucks. I am trying to move to Wichita and hope the home values fall in the next year so I can pick up a deal. The taxes in Kansas are horrible on property and I bet dollars to doughnuts that they try to raise them to fill the gap in lost revenue. Which will make homes go into foreclosure faster. By the end of the year the layoffs will start to really take affect. I think we are going to have a depression, no way around it. All those who said we would not have a recession have been dead wrong. I think we just have to go through the pain, no other way around it.

I know several people who have kids who depend on that money comeing back to pay bills. It's rediculous. I wonder how thoses christians feel about a casino now? Maybe they love that they can yell the end of the world is here.
