My son is considering Dodge City Community College on a rodeo scholarship offer. I have heard crime is really bad there. I am reading a lot about gang problems. Is this just an isolated area or should my son consider somewhere else to go?

Many people commute from other towns that are nearby Dodge City. Cimarron is one example.

There's approximately 11 gangs in Dodge City - So I would say it's not just an isolated area.

Only the northside of town is good, other than that I would avoid all other parts of town, Dodge is about 70 percent hispanic. I am only here for work with the USDA at the meat plants but am getting the hell outta here soon even if I have to quit my good job and take a crappy job elsewhere.

it has gotten a lot worse in the last 2-3 years. commuting also might take a while from even the closest city. but I can attest that living on campus is rather safe. just send the kid there and let him stay in the dorms.

College at Dodge City
Thanks for everyone's input. He will be attending Dodge City College on a rodeo scholarship. Out of all other offers, he chose Dodge City because of the rodeo coach. I think he will be in good hands there.
