Moving to Fort Leavenworth in a few months, and would love to know where the better HS's are in the area. Prefer to drive no more than 30-35 min. to work if at all possible. Platte City, Bonner Springs, Lansing? Any others that we should look into? Any information would be greatly appreciated!!!

Personally, I'd look in the west part of Shawnee along K-7 just South of Bonner Springs. Mill Valley HS or DeSoto HS. Both are in the Desoto district.

We have lived in this district for 11 years now and are moving to be in either the Shawnee Mission or Blue Valley districts for high schools. But those may be too far away for you. (Although Shawnee Mission Northwest may not be and that's a great school.)

I wouldn't choose any of the Wyandot county districts over Desoto. And I would not choose Lansing or Leavenworth. On the MO side, Parkville may be an option, but wouldn't save you much time.

I use government data and not emotions to ranks schools. The Kansas school district rankings may be found here:

Kansas State Districts - KS School District Rankings

Lansing ranks highest in the ones you consider. The Shawnee Mission school district falls in your range if you stay in the NorthWest quadrant of the district. It ranks second highest of any you would consider. Leavenworth ranks very low. You should know that the drive down 4th street through Leavenworth proves very slow getting to the Fort. Expect to add ten to twelve minutes for it. The police actively enforce the speed limit in Leavenworth.

I just moved from Leavenworth at the end of December. I'd pick Lansing for the best high school, hands down. If you were wanting elementary schools, I'd say the on-post schools. I can't tell you the number of people (and all unanimously) who loved the on-post schools.

And the post above me is absolutely correct...Leavenworth police enforce their speed limits very, VERY actively. I saw the police many times standing at the bottom of the hill pointing the radar gun up the hill just to get people coasting down.

Enjoy your time in Leavenworth. We were only there for a short 10 months, but enjoyed it a lot.
