Hoyt is in the Royal Valley School District. Their web site address is: Royal Valley USD 337 . The elementary and high school are in Hoyt, the middle school is in Mayetta, 5 miles north. The school buses kids if they're in the "other" town.
Hoyt is right off of hwy 75, straight shot down to Topeka. Shopping is 15 minutes away.

My friend left Topeka to move to Hoyt. Wanted to avoid "crime in the big city" Bought a house, started the family. Later that year the house 1 block from her got busted for having a meth lab. Soon after they found out the nice man across the street, who's dog they took care of when he was away, was a convicted pedofile.
Not trying to run down small towns or Hoyt in particular, but don't let the fact that you are in a small town lull you into thinking there is no crime or criminals.
Jackson County, as do most rural counties in Kansas, has problems with meth labs.

I've been here 4 1/2 years and there have been no problems I've been aware of. And, yes, it does sound like you're trying to knock Hoyt specifically. Every town has problems. You just can't get away from everything negative, but I live here, and haven't experienced anything like what you mentioned.
If you're concerned, look at this site: Offender Search — KDOC Web... or maybe this one: KBI: Offender Registry
The simple fact is that Hoyt has a population of roughly 600 vs. Topeka's 120,000+ pop. You can not compare the crime rate of the two.

I know, and I've lived in Topeka 51 years and had no problems but to read these posts you'd think every person in the city is a criminal except for the poster.

I happen to like Topeka, I just didn't want to raise my kids there. Living in tiny town, we get the best of both worlds.

This could be too late to be useful but I lived in two different houses in Montara. I've never heard of any serious crimes there. Mostly just people getting too loud. I always felt quite safe there, except for aggresive dogs in people's yards. Everyone was friendly and both times we moved the neighbors came out to help us. There are lots of kids running around and several day cares. There is a community center with various activities for kids, playground, baseball field and a workout gym. It is very quick to get on the highway from Montara. There is a elementary and middle school right there and the highschool is one of the better ones (Washburn Rural).
The place looks kinda trashy but I was quite happy there. Most of the houses are on crawl space and in KS it is better to have a basement.
