You can see the next town 10 miles away. The giant elevators are a dead giveaway.

The scenery is awesome away from I-70. The Smoky Hills are just a few miles north from the highway. The buttes give the landscape a distinctive western flair.

G-stater makes a good point.....there's soo much more to Kansas than what can be seen from I-70!
The best views are along state roads and US highways.
Going across I-70, you really don't get to appreciate the beauty of Kansas....

Speaking of...
Flint Hills National Scenic Byway
Gypsum Hills Scenic Byway
Wetlands and Wildlife Scenic Byway
So much beauty, and yet so few people across the U.S. realize it's there. A shame, really. Maybe that's a good thing, though...

I don't mind flat every now and then. True, you can see the big elevators. One of these times, next time I'm on 70 and going past Park, Kansas, east of Oakley, I'm going to stop and take a picture of the church in town. Man, is that one pretty! Another one that is really impressive is the one near Victoria, a little further east.. I think they call that one the Cathedral of the Plains.

Victoria, along with many towns in that region of KS, was settled primarily by Volga Germans. The present day Union Pacific Railroad made a dead end at the location of present day Hays in Ellis County in the mid 1870s.

My parents got married there and I have always wanted to see the church. Never found the time. I may have to do just that.
