Upside is that you are very close to KC....I think Kansas in general is boring compared to other parts of the country. I still can't imagine living anywhere else and I have been to 47 states.

LOL. this is so blown out of proportion. Lawrence can be a pretty cool place. for example, Lawrence tends to get as many concerts, if not more, than Kansas City. and most of the good local bands are coming out of Lawrence (they always have been). I agree that it can be dead in the summer, but it reflects more like how Lawrence would be if KU were not there and in that sense it is a bit more comfortable. On the other hand, there is more stuff to do in KC in regards to restaurants, museums & parks, shopping, etc.

What I loved about it, as a student, was that it's rather compact. I could call any friend and say let's meet downtown... and be there in 10 minutes. There were many interesting shops downtown, and I thought the restaurants were decent too. We used to eat at Tellers a lot.
