What About overland park ?? (Kansas City: transplants, 2009, apartment)

Hello All ,

i am considering moving to Overland park and need to know about its

safety ?? is it safe specially for middle eastern Muslim like me
weather ? how much snow and showers in that city , i like warm weather
housing ?? can i find a 2 bed room apartment in range of $ 800

Yes, Overland Park is a typical large suburb that is becoming much more diverse over time. The city attracts transplants from many other parts of the US as well as around the world. Overland Park has a four season climatge so it will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Between June and August the average high temperature is between 88-90F. The average snowfall for the area is around 16-18 inches. However, the area only receives a few snow "events" per season. The city boundaries of Overland Park are also very spread out stretching from a small sliver of 47 street down to 191 street. I would say $800-$950 would be a good reasonable starting figure for a two bedroom apartment. A one bedroom apartment would run less than that obviously. Also, if you enjoy more urban ammenities, nightlife, etc I would look into KC, MO as well. The commute from KC, MO to Overland Park would be around 30 minutes.

I lived in Overland Park for about 12 years and I am middle eastern as well. Crime is very low, as opposed to crime in Kansas City, MO which can range from petty theft to homicide. As the previous poster mentioned, you can definitely find a place for around $800. Kansas is generally warm from April till September, and even October sometimes. I like it in the sense that the weather is pretty balanced and you get to experience all four seasons. Although there are a decent amount of middle easterners (pakistanis, iranians, etc) & indians I still felt kind of uncomfortable. It is certainly not a city I would come to for its racial diversity, but you don't get bothered too much about it.

I grew up in OP and left in 1986. Back then, it was about 99.9% white. I didn't hear much in the way of racism, but then there was basically only one race. Every few years I come back to visit and it's definitely a lot more diverse than it used to be. I haven't noticed many ethnic restaurants though. In California, we had so many great Middle Eastern restaurants all over that were run by families - I love the food.
