Default SE Kansas Too Hot, Was Too Icy So....

Today we have a "feels like" temp of 99 degrees. This is after being flooded for a couple of months and the freezing rain in the winter. So, we need to stay in Kansas and I was looking at Goodland and Colby and seeing that this week, their night time temperatures would be at least 5 to 10 degrees cooler than here. So, anyone out that way have any recommendations for small towns (I know they mostly come in small and smaller out there) that don't have a "feels like" temp of 99 degrees plus this week and night times in the mid-70's? I have just had it with the bugs, rodents and reptiles that all this moisture brings! Any advice or recommendation would be greatly appreciated. I much prefer the snow and colder temperatures to the steamy summer - born and raised in Indiana/Michigan. Thank you.

I grew up in Hays but have lived in JoCo for the last almost 20 years. Northwest Kansas is a very different climate than SE KS. Complete opposite in some ways. Very dry, almost desert-like in the Summer. Very flat, with few trees. Lots and Lots of wheatfields. Summers are not much cooler. Highs in June, July and August frequently in excess of 100 degrees.

Not much humidity, but you trade that for the very hot winds. In winter you have more snow than freezing rain, but again, with the wind, the snow falls HORIZONTALLY.

I would definitely recommend some long visits during the height of both Winter and Summer before making a commitment to Western KS.

I prefer Eastern KS to Western KS, but to each his own. It's certainly nothing like Michigan! :-)

Samantha's right. When you step out the air-conditioned house in western Kansas, you get hit in the face with the blast furnace, if the wind is blowing. There's no other way to describe the heat.
