Prisons drop programs amid cuts | CJOnline.com

It was a redundant article that was cut. Here's the other. I couldn't find any information about rentals in Ellsworth, except for what was in their local newspaper online.

I don't know of anyone who moves to Ellsworth on purpose. We're talking about a town of maybe 2,900 people ... on a good day. I have met several people FROM Ellsworth, and all are glad to be away from there. I lived in Topeka for 2+ years. It's a much better choice than Ellsworth, but the biggest thing to do in Topeka is to go to Kansas City on the weekends. If you're looking for correctional officer jobs, have you checked into Leavenworth County? Leavenworth is an OK town. There is Fort Leavenworth there and just 4-5 miles down the road in Lansing is a state prison. In my opinion, Lansing is a nicer place to live.

As for schools, you can't go wrong in Johnson County. Public schools are great. Even high-paid professionals who could easily afford private schools often send their kids to the public schools in Johnson County. There are a good selection of private schools too, mostly Catholic.

I am moving from San Antonio to Topeka also. I have a son that is 9 . I also would love to know where the best schools are. When are you moving out there?

Ellsworth sucks, but Leavenworth/Lansing is okay?

Uh, okay, depends on what you like I guess.

Ellsworth IMO is a nice little town. Nice people, low COL, close enough for day trips to Lawrence or Topeka, and the schools are okay ... Personally I like Ellsworth 10 times better than Leavenworth or Lansing.

Best of luck to you!

We would want to rent a house (since we are not sure about the area or the job, we don't want to commit to buying) do you have any idea what a nice 3+ bedroom runs for? I searched the local paper's classifieds and it was not very helpful.

Thanks,
Judy
Check out realtor.com, you can search and see what is out there. Works great.

Topeka High is a good solid school for the most part-a large number of diverse programs and students. Topeka Collegiate is supposed to be wonderful i hear
