In terms of real estate Roeland Park is in the "golden triangle" This includes the town of Roeland Park, Fairway, and the Mission area. All of these areas have interesting older neighborhoods with lots of old shade trees. The homes are fairly affordable depending on the area with smaller homes typically below $200,000. Real estate prices may increase in the near future because more people could be moving back into these areas because of the close proximity they have to the Plaza and downtown. Their is also an increasing amount of diversity as well in northern Johnson County

Kansas would appear to me to be too dangerous of a state to live in, due to the risk of devastating tornadoes. It is easy to deal with the heat (get up early in the morning, stay inside air-conditioned buildings during the hottest parts of the day, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen when you do go outside), but I don't think I could deal with the destructive power of tornadoes.

AZ has tornadoes too. EVERY state has bad weather, no matter how you look at it.

The 1st summer I moved to Phoenix area, my son almost got hit by lightning. It burned his foot! Disaster happens everywhere, just have to be smart about it and take precautions. What happened in Greensburg, will not happen everywhere in KS at all times. It's not that common. I have some friends who lived in Nebraska all their lives and never had a direct hit from a tornado. They moved to S Cali, and their entire house was destroyed from an earthquake.
