Schlitterbahn vs. Oceans of Fun in KC
Am planning to visit mid August. Is this open yet? Website says summer 2009 but I'm thinking construction is behind schedule. Oceans of Fun was around for a long time when I lived here decades ago. Does it seem run down or is it worth it if Schlitterbahn isn't open yet. Coming with a young tweenager.

I think some of the park is open... I'd check back at the site regularly. I haven't been to Ocean's of Fun in about 6 years but I have been to Schlitterbahn in TX... Definitely go to Schlitterbahn if it's open when you come up.

Till they build more of Schlitterbahn, I would say Oceans of Fun is probably going to be better. Schlitterbahn's first phase is not even as large as Oceans of Fun.
Plus Oceans of Fun is next to Worlds of Fun, which I think is really an underrated theme park and one of the better parks in the midwest.
Having said that, I'm sure Schlitterbahn will eventually become a major tourist draw and just the newness of it will certainly draw some crowds for the first year or so.
But they better hurry and build up the park more, because if you have been to other Schlitterbahn parks, I don't think the KCK park will live up to people's expectations. It’s nowhere near the initial hype and renderings they have been putting out there.

I second this post. Do Oceans\Worlds.
The Schlitterbahn will most likely be the #1 park in the country eventually...but the economy has slowed the speed and scope of the project.
Give it 3 years or so and Schlitterbahn KS will be amazing...but it will be a lot more expensive too.

What is Schlitterbahn like? I have never been to it(ironically, I used to live in Texas, but I did see San Antonio's Sea World).

Thanks for the updates. Their web is very vague about KC installation.
Will wait for more to be built, along with having the kinks worked out. Maybe next years visit.
I saw Sclitterbahn in TX on one of those Top 10 shows...of course, this one was for Water Parks. Think it was in the top 3. Then, am thinking the new ones would be even better. KC & MO summers definitely warrant places to cool off.

Waterpark with lots of extras. Their Texas one is rated #1 in the country but that was off a TV show but seemed reasonable.
Check out their website.

We drove by today on State Ave., just east of 435. You have to really look, to see it. From what I understand, it's going to take up most of the land up to State. If that's the case, it'd be along the lines of White Water, in Branson, size-wise.
