Default Lawrence-type things to do in Topeka

For the last couple of years I've gone to college but stayed living in Lawrence. Finally gas and other factors got too much for me and I decided to move to Topeka but am really bored and am afraid I will be until school starts back up. All the bars and places I know are country, which I'm not into. Is there any areas to walk around kind of like Mass St. Are there any young pseudo-hippie bars like the Replay, Henry's, or the Jackpot in Topeka? Where are the small concerts? There must be something in a town this size

That one might be difficult, as Lawrence is truly unique for Kansas. I don't know if you're into casinos, but there's always Harrah's (then again, just about the last thing you'll find there is a Lawrence-style youthful vibe). There are a number of bars in the downtown area, though, so you might find what you're looking for there. The good news is that Lawrence is only a hop, skip, and a jump away from Topeka along I-70. Good luck settling in!

I have to laugh. I lived in Topeka right out of college (graduated from a large university in another midwestern state). Actually, was first living in KC for a short time, then got transfered to Topeka.

Apartment hunting in Topeka was a hoot. The property managers actually thought we were crazy for moving to Topeka from KC. They literally warned against it--saying you're not going to like it here in "Slowpeka" , aka "Topukea". I'll never forget that.

I fully believed I'd dread my time there. Instead, I LOVED the people I worked with and actually liked my apartment a lot. I liked being removed from the craziness of just out of college yuppie stuff. I found it a nice place to live.

That said, whenever we went "out", and that was every weekend, it was in Lawrence or KCMO exclusively. Glad we had friends living there. Then commuted on back to Topeka for the work week.
