You might have better luck checking out duplexes or small houses for rent, or other places owned by individuals as opposed to large complexes.
You might be asked for a larger deposit, but at least you will be able to talk to a real person about it and some may not even bother to do a credit check.
I know what a pain it is to clean up after a scumbag thief like that! Get a copy of your credit report and once something is shown to be fraudulent, ask the company to report it and clean it off your record. Good luck!
