This will involve tearing down the first two houses next to 75th street from Nall to State Line. A lot of people are opposing it but since I have looked at the plans, I think it will be good. They will widen 75th street, put a median in the middle if I remember correctly, put storefronts along 75th street with apartments/housing above them, make a walking trail that is further off the street and separated from the street by green space (right now if you walk along 75th street the sidewalk is right next to the street and the cars whizzing by are right next to you). I think they said the speed limit would be lowered. Also, they plan to redo Corinth completely, with shops and greenspace, with apartments or some type of housing over the shops. They plan to do something with PV shopping center too. Not sure of the details of that. They also plan to have walking/biking trails throughout PV so it is walker friendly. There already are quite a few parks in PV.
There is also talk of using what is now Meadowbrook Country Club at 91st and Nall to build high rise condos. There is a lot of opposition to that because that is the last big piece of green space in PV. I'm not sure I want to see that.
I hope they don't go crazy on building housing above shops. There is no more available land in PV so that is a way to make more living space in PV, I just hope they don't overdo it. I still want to feel like I live in a small, friendly community. Anyway, it's a 20 year plan so nothing's going to happen immediately and lots of PV residents are opposed to it, but I'm optimistic and I can see how it could be a good thing. www.villagevision75.com

WOW! I had no idea. That sounds really terrific (although it looks like the project is in infant stages and has stalled since the real estate collapse - looks like a long-term effort).
We'd be just a hop, skip and a jump from there. We had wanted to live in Brookside because of that kind of walkable feel near stores, but if PV is planning on bringing a Brookside-style neighborhood to us, even better!
Hope to see you around town sometime!

I would say two lanes but I don't think two lanes would work there at all, and 75th is 4 lanes in Overland Park and KCMO, so I doubt it would narrow just through PV. I think it will be more like Brookside, with parking spots in front of the shops off of 75th. Sounds like the speed limit will be lowered, though, so maybe 75th won't be a major thoroughfare like it is now? I don't know all the details, but that link above has a link inside of it you can click on that has all the tentative plans.

You mean two houses deep? If so, that'll probably get my sister. She's not gonna be happy.

Well, when I looked at the map again, it is two houses deep on the houses that face east and west. Looks like on the map that the houses that face north and south it will just go one deep. I barely missed being one of the houses they plan to take out myself. Although if the price was right...(but I'm sure it won't be).

Where's the map? I didn't notice it on that web site. She's on the northeast corner of 75th & Mission but it seems like there are already business on that corner.

In any case, it doesn't look like this is happening for at least five years. No development is happening right now anywhere in the country and PV doesn't seem to be much past the "let's talk about it stage" - and they haven't even held discussion on it in a year. So your sister may be safe for now!
But long-term I think it would be awesome.

Apparently there were govt funds that PV qualified for and whoever was in charge of that did not get the paperwork in by the deadline and was fired because of that. I am not sure if that had something to do with Village Vision or not; I kind of think it did. So that may be why nothing has happened yet. And also I thought the decline in the economy may have stalled it a little. At any rate, they did say it's a 20 year plan so it's a long term project, not something happening immediately.

I think so. I think the houses in the grayed area with the houses in lavender. I didn't go to any meetings but my husband did, and that's what he was telling me. I looked at the NE corner of 75th and Mission and I couldn't tell what was what, either. I just see my house is safe.

If I could live anywhere in the Kansas City metro area, it would be Prairie Village. I graduated from Shawnee Mission East in 2007... Though I lived in Shawnee at the time, I spent a lot of time doing stuff in the town. I love Lancer Village (is it still called that) and all the shops around there.
Definitely the place for people who are financially set for life or have a family/empty-nesters. I know it's a bit pricy but you're close to a great school and shops... I however didn't find any big stores like Target, Wal-Mart, etc. up until south of I-435, state line, or around I-35. But the kind of crowd I hung out with, you wouldn't be caught shopping there lol .... Anyway, Prairie Village is defnitely a lovely place to live.
Always a Lancer
