Default Commuting from Overland Park to KCK

Hello all,

I'm looking at relocating to the greater KC area, and am being considered for a job at a hospital in KC,KS. I've some friends in the overland park area, and they recommended that suburb, I drove around both OP & Olathe, and liked OP better. How long of a commute is it from OP to KCKS during peak hours?. It took me about 25 minutes at 1:30 PM.

I'm currently living in Columbia,MO and have been spoiled by the 10 minute commute everywhere here. I have a 3 yr old so good schools are important, but 45-60 minute commutes are going to be harder to do on a daily basis. Are there any other good suburbs along the 435 corridor heading to KCKS that KC veterans would recommend?. I'm looking at initially renting a 3BR/2BA single family home for upto $1300-1500 a month, and later purchase if this job works out.

Thank you for your insight and help.

Clueless in Columbia

I am not sure What Hospital in KCK you are working at I am familiar with KU Med near state line
and Providence St.Margaret on around 89th, if you are commuting out to 89th from OP you might try Western Wyandotte County near the Race track or in the Piper school district. That the direction KCK is developing. Thats why they have Unified the Wyandotte County and Leavensworth County Governments.

Definitely depends on where the hospital is. Shawnee might be an option.

Yea, Shawnee would be a good option. But you can get from just about anywhere in JoCo to either KCK hospital in less than 40 minutes during rush hour. Just prepare for the days where there is a bad wreck or bad weather as then it could reach or exceed 60 minutes (few times a year). US-69 in OP is also under major construction for a couple of years and that will create some delays as well.

Another option would be Platte County (Parkville area). You could take 635 to 70 (east or west) and it would only be about a 20-30 minute drive to either hospital as 635 and 70 (on the KS side) rarely even slows down even during rush hour.
