Default Opinions on Burlington, KS

I am planning a move in the near future. An old friend of mine has relatives in the Burlington, Kansas area that have been laid off at one of the Wichita aircraft plants and they have what appears to be a real nice 40 acre property with a brick home and outbuildings. I have yet to look at the property in person but my friend knows it well and it sounds like it has everything I need.

What I need to know is more about the Burlington area. I like to fish and have a small boat. I used to love to hunt but can no longer navigate by foot. Does Kansas allow hunting from an ATV or other motorized vehicle? Are there decent shooting ranges in the area? Silhouette shooting etc? I am not really into shotguns or trap.

Motorcycles and fast cars are major passions of mine. It looks like Topeka and the Kansas City area have nice tracks for spectators. Are there smaller tracks in the area? I would like to get back into racing on small dirt tracks on a hobby level. Something with say $10K claims limits.

One of the things that appeals to me about the area is that there are people with highly technical skills learned in the aircraft factories. I have several projects that will require metal skills similar to that in the aircraft industry. Are there shops in the area willing to take on small projects?

Anyone with information about the area pro or con?

TIA for any help,
GL2
