DirtDawg is on a distinguished road
I have only been through Greensburg a few times. I drive a semi truck and the second time through town, I broke down. I coasted in next door to the Kansan Restaurant at a place that had some trucks. Oddly enough, it was a stormy evening and tornado warnings were out for the area. The place I parked at hooked me up with Apache Services, they in turn told me they could repair my truck the very next morning. They told me about the Kansan Inn east of the Cafe. I walked to the Motel and boy was I was soaked! They got me a nice warm, dry room. Then I went to the Cafe and had a wonderful meal. The people were great and made me feel at home.Reminded me of my favorite coffee shop near home. I went back to my room and slept well. Early the next morning the Mechanic from Apache was there,we got the truck to their shop and they had me on my way in no time. A month or two later I was coming through again and called the Kansan Inn to see if I could get a room for the night. They remembered me being there before and said "Sure, park by the pool and come on in." I came in and the Manager said "at least your not all wet tonight" and we had a laugh about my earlier stay. When I heard that Greensburg had been hit hard by the twister that Saturday morning on the news, I was just in shock. Such a nice town and great people as what I met in Greensburg, certainly did not deserve this to happen. I live in a small town in Illinois so I know how the people in these towns help each other, and total strangers out. It was certainly a blessing, in my opinion, that I had my so called "bad luck" where I did.

I go through Greensburg fairly often in the ambulance. DirtDawg, you'll be glad to know the Kansan Inn survived largely intact, and the restaurant is well on it's way to being rebuilt!

It's small steps, but there are businesses open and the town shows signs of life. It's kind of cool to see lights on at night when once there were none. The Kwik Shop is the place to be! It's owned by Dillon's and this particular convenience store is also part grocery store. It's really neat to see how many people shop there - the place is packed every time we go through.

The saddest reminder to me is the poor trees; and add insult to injury, the poor trees suffered ice damage during the last ice storm!
