Actually I have seen one anyway! I was coming back to Topeka from Manhattan on US 24 just East of Rossville and saw one on the South side of the highway. I grew up in California an am familiar with them. Was quite surprised to see on out here.

I know ever so often the word gets put out on that people on the west end of Wichita should be on the look out for them as a radio collar transmission gets pick up from one. I recall when I was little - and we're going back 20-25 years- visiting my grandmother out on the west side that someone had seen a mountain lion. of course that put everybody on edge. All dogs and kids were pretty much locked up inside.

They've been WIDELY seen and documented all over Kansas for over a decade now.
Latest sighting I heard was a jogger near Lawrence.

No surprise. Cougar have been seen in the Tutle Creek area for years. Kansas is doing the same thing the MO Dept. of Conservation did. Deny, deny, deny until multiple cat carcasses and photographs are furnished and they can no longer deny. When it comes to livestock killings by cougars eventually the farmers will take matters in to their own hands after Fish & Game turns a deaf ear to complaints.
The one hit by a car on the MO side near KCI 4 or so years ago was on 152 Hwy, IIRC, between I-29 and I-35 at Liberty. I believe it was at that point the MO Dept. of Conservation had to stop their public denials about big cats in MO.

We've seen them in the area of CO/NE/KS since the 50's according to all the old timers. Plenty of Canyons and trees to hide them if they want to. I've seen tracks of one in a Canyon about 20 years ago. They are pretty unmistakable.
