Smile TX or KC?

Where you will be the happiest is all about what your preferences are: climate, crime rate, housing cost, population, activities, schools, etc., etc.

One major factor to consider is the weather....KC has distinct four seasons and they can be wonderful for anyone used to four seasons. KC has a much milder climate than further north (SD, MI, etc.); however, compared to TX, Are you prepared for ice in winter? Frigid temps? And again, I'm comparing KC to living much further south.

I can list the things I enjoy about the KC Metro area, but those would be my preferences and may not apply to you at all.

As far as people in this area; I think they are the epitome of down-to-earth kind-hearted people. Sure, we have a few jerks, but what town doesn't?

Since you've been offered jobs in both areas, did the employers give you some time to stay in each area to be able to see as much as you can?

I have lived in Southern California, and compared to there, we don't really have any traffice problems in the KC area. I do believe the roads in KS are kept in much better condition than on the MO side.

Crime is the worst in downtown Kansas City, MO; and it is bad in Kansas City, KS as well.

Let me know what you're looking for and I'll try to zero in on your interests.

Good luck!

Default Texas or Kansas

As was indicated it really boils down to what you prefer. I currently live in Allen, Texas and I am relocating to a job in Overland Park, KS. Allen is a northern suburb of Dallas so I cannot compare it to Sherman. Sherman may be great. Allen is OK but I am ready to move. I want more scenery than the flat lands and small trees in Texas. I will enjoy the landscape of Overland Park. I also miss the 4 seasons. This year has seen a lot more rain in Texas but for the past two years it has been very dry here.

I used to think that people were the same everywhere. There are some really good people in Texas but there also seems to be a higher % of people that are more focused on the superflous than substance. That is probably just my experience. I suspect that Sherman is more down to earth.

Good luck regardless of your decision.

Have you spent time with your potential team mates from both companies. Cities are cities, weather is weather...but when you have to work side-by-side with your teammates, that can impact your life more than anything else.

Also, which one has the better career path...more importantly, is it a career path you have passion for? If it is not something you can see yourself making an impact with long-term, you might not want to pack up and move from Texas.

However, since I live in Kansas City, I can tell you a bit about our town.

I've enjoyed going to the following stadiums:

www kcchiefs dot com
www tbonesbaseball dot com
www kcbrigade dot com

We have everything from downtown lofts to sprawling farm homes. There are many nice apartment complexes as well.

The Plaza has many shops and dining as well as the Zona Rosa.

There is one highway that wraps around the city, 435. Most everyone I know lives 20/30 minutes from their place of work.

There is also a Bass Pro, Cabela's, and the Kansas Speedway that is lots of fun as well.

Thanks,
Ronda Marchant

Kansas and Texas are similiar in a lot of ways; e.g., BIG tornadoes and wicked heat. But in other ways they are a world apart! IF you like the "don't mess with Texas" attitude, the cowboy-up lifestyle, etc. then don't come to Kansas! The western part of the state is more like Texas in that you'll see more cowboys, ranchers, and oil types. But Kansas is to me a bunch of German immigrants who are Lutheran and Catholic. That ain't Texas! Texans are more folksy ("howdy ma'am") and Kansans are more stoic. Think Ann Richards and dubya as two typical Texans. Think Bob Dole as a typical Kansan.

first off, you should live where you feel the most confortable, for instance, I went to KC one time, and the traffic was horific for me, but, I live in a very small town, so that accounts for alot, if your use to driving in heavy traffic, especialy when getting off work, then go for KC...however if your not, perhaps sticking to an area that you are familiar with, would be the best bet.

Default Hi All,

Thanks for all the responses, Yes i agree totally with you all and i have chosen Kansas city as i have a lot of frendzz from school there...and yes i am also tired of the dry and flat land in texas. i am sure i will ,miss the warmth of the people in texas. I guess i am tired of living alone with no frendz around, and that was the main reason i made this choice...thanks a bunch...the ones in kansas......hope to bump into you guyzzz sometime

You never stated (unless I missed it) "which" Kansas City? I'm guessing Kansas, not Missouri since you asked "Kansas or Texas?"
Kansas City, Kansas is a whole different world than Kansas City, Missouri, which is much larger...has the professional sports teams...the airport (MCI)...hotels...fine restaurants, etc.

Anyone who says there is much more to do in Texas, has never been to Kansas City, MO. Truly a beautiful city, with many fountains, parks, etc.

I'm a former Kansan, so I have to speak up for that area. :-) But, I'm a former Texan also. To one of our posters. FYI: I lived in San Angelo, El Paso, and San Antonio for a total of about 35 years, and not once in all that time did anyone say, "Howdy!" to me! :-) You see that in movies like "City Slickers!"
