Default I want to buy a business in Altamont, KS, should I?

Can anyone advise me on whether Altamont would be a good town to buy a business in? I've read the population is declining and that worries me a lot. What is the economic climate?

Altamont is a town located in Labette County Kansas which is in the southeast part of the state. Altamont is located directly south of the town of Parsons, which is the bigger town in the county. The population of Altamont is about 1,100 and is only declining by about 2% in the past 6 years which is less of a decline than in most towns its size in the state of Kansas. Average median income in this portion of Kansas tends to be lower than the state average. Non-farm employment for Labette County has also been stagnant for the past several years. Overall, this area of Kansas probably needs an economic boost for sure.

I really appreciate your input. Everything I had read so far led me to the same conclusion, but it's good to have it verified by someone who knows the area.

Altamont population is a bit small but you will have expansion opportunities around.

My wife grew up in Parsons, as was mentioned it's a larger town just 12 miles north of Altamont. Parsons is a dying community! The army ammunition plant was the biggest employer, but over the years they keep losing contracts and now the rumor is it will only be open a couple more months. As Parsons slowly dies, towns close by like Altamont can't help but do the same. We drive through Altamont each time we visit the in-laws, not much in that town. What business is for sale there and maybe I can give you more advice?
