In the 1850’s people came to Kansas for land. Some got off the boat took one look around did not see four story buildings and fancy stores. They went back east on the next boat. Those that stayed made this great state. Now some of the folks back east make fun of us for living in the wide-open spaces. At least your ancestors came for a look. How would we have seafood? We are the center of the lower 48; it is a little way to the seashore.

I often wonder why people don't go to the area before deciding moving there. You know - scope it out.

I moved to Kansas from NY - because that's where my Hubby is from. So, I knew what I was getting myself into.

I always try and give advice, but it's best to check out the area for a few weeks if possible.

You can expect bitterly cold and windy winters and hot as all hell summers and not a lot of fall or spring in between. You can expect a rather slow way of life. Wichita is a city but it is much like many a small town. Kinda dies after 5PM except for Old Town. You can also expect cheap living. In fact it is one of the cheapest places to live. The schools are good if you have kids and there is no traffic at all. You can drive anywhere from anywhere in about 15 minutes.

The last New Yorker I knew that moved to Wichita is still standing on Douglas and Broadway trying to find the subway entrance!
