According to Reader's Digest. (Would give the link, but not sure if it is allowed here.)

Any thoughts on that? I'd certainly have to agree... I've been to 39 states (includes DC), and Ontario...and the quality of Kansas' roads was second to none...and it wasn't even close!

I agree they are great. I would have though Texas might be up there too. I lived in Oklahoma and it's a joke. Kansas has some higher taxes but I don't mind that when you are able to see what the money goes to. I hope the state continues to focus on roads despite a shrinking budget.

Yeah...I've driven all over Kansas City's freeways, took I-35 down to where it meets the TPK...US 50 west to 135 down to Wichita...and US 54 west from there to Liberal. Not a single bad road, and all were great, with one slight exception at the MO/KS border on I-70...that's not a real treat, but I'll blame MO for that one

I have to agree OK roads are a joke. And the amount you have to pay on the turnpikes there is outrages for the quality of the roads.

Kansas has good roads. I will give the state that.
The grid pattern and straightness of nearly all the roads make me drowsy though.
I like the twisty narrow roads of the hill country in the Appalachians much better
You will never fall asleep with all the bumps in the road. Avoiding frost heaves keeps the mind alert

I know what Granite Stater is saying regarding driving in the hills. I've driven many a mile on Colorado's mountain roads, they sure keep me alert (along with the 1000 pound rocks coming at ya going through Glenwood Canyon!)

Kansas roads are first rate. I'm with knrstz with the Texas highways, they are excellent as well!

Yes, when we go on vacation we are driving along and the road is smooth then it starts to get bumpy. I ask my hubby what happened and he says we aren't in Kansas anymore. LOL, I can tell when we go into another state. Land of OZ. LOL

If you want to see the difference between good roads and bad roads, drive I-435 in Kansas City. You know exactly where the state line is (without looking at the exit sign for State Line Rd) by the smoothness of the road. Gets bumpy as soon as you cross into Missouri (which I would nominate for worst roads in the country).

Maybe a bit less spending on roads and the state wouldn't be in financial woes. But hey, as long as the roads are smooth right?
