Default Considering a move to Salina, KS

We are considering a move to Salina, based on what we have read/seen it looks good, until I looked at the familywatchdog site, and there seem to be an awe-full lot of sex offenders in that area...

My biggest concerns are that, crime rates in general and the economy...

Also, we homeschool, is there a homeschooling community there (eg co-ops, etc)

Thanks

I don't know where you are moving from. But, Salina Kansas is a sewer. A very clickish community. You never feel like you will fit in. Unless you have LOTS of money.

I think there are a lot of nice things about Salina. I have lived a lot of places around the country and in Kansas, and Salina definitely has its perks. For one, it is a small city, but it still has decent shopping and restaurants. They actually just recently built a Kohl's and Old Navy- which helps a lot. And you don't have to drive 20 minutes to get to a store like you do in some larger cities... It is a relatively safe city to live in... at least from my perspective. I feel safer there then even in the nicest suburbs of the Kansas city area. The economy seems okay there. The housing prices don't seem to have dropped very much compared to most areas in the country. There seem to be a lot of job openings there... but I guess it just depends on what kind of job one is looking for.
I actually grew up in Salina, and there are some creeps there... but they are in every city... I used to get yelled at when I was walking home from school by guys hanging out of their cars.... so you get the idea... there seem to be a lot of that type there... but i think the positives outweigh the negatives...
