Default Which schools are better Olathe or Gardner?

Hi,
We are moving to Johnson County and are wondering about the schools in Olathe and Gardner. I've heard Olathe and Shawnee Mission are good, but on school digger it says Gardner school district is ranked 7th in KS and Olathe is 72nd. Could I have some of your opinions?
Thanks!

The most well regarded school districts in Johnson County are Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley. Olathe schools are fairly good. I don't know much about Gardner, but the housing stock quality around there generally deteriorates in quality. Disclaimer: I MUCH PREFER the nicer established neighborhoods in Johnson County inside the I-435 loop for the most part. Blue Valley east of 69 (Metcalf to State Line) south of 435 is spendy and upscale. I would have to know your price range to get a general idea of what areas to recommend, though.

Are you relocating due to a job opportunity in JOCO? Have you checked out the MO suburban areas like Lee's Summit? Schools there are also quite good.

GS

We are actually from Miami county KS, but have moved out of state and are moving back to the area next year. We would like to stay on the KS side because we have family in Miami county. My husband will be working in KCMO and we would like to be within 30 minutes of his work. We are in the $250,000 price range. Are there certain schools in Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley school districts where the kids are more "stuck up" or cliquey? Are most of the schools in Johnson County like that?

What about the Spring Hill district. I have a friend that lives there (just barely in Miami County), seems like a nice area. Might be more commute than you want though.

Some friends moved to Gardner a year ago and are quite pleased with the schools. She is from Franklin County KS and he is from Florida. Their kids are very young so I know they did their homework before making a final decision in their move.

Both school districts are great! Gardner is much smaller than Olathe so there is a definate difference in some things but they are both great suburban districts. Also, I'd definately put Olathe in with Blue Valley personally. Good luck and welcome back to KS

Thank you all for your replies! What do you all think about the bigger schools in Johnson county? Is it hard to make it in sports because there are so many kids? We don't know anything about the bigger school districts.

We have been thrilled with BV schools since moving last year from DeSoto district. Nothing "wrong" with DeSoto, but IMHO, BV has been better for my kids.

That said, my kids are not into school sports, so I can't speak to that.
