Aloha Bugsbunny,

Is this for Kauai folks only? It's listed in the Kauai section of CD.

There is a lot of citrus in our yard here on the Big Island. We are at about 1,000 feet with about 100 inches of rain a year. Occasional fog, too. Citrus does really well along with bananas, and some very specific varieties of peaches. Avocados do well, too. There hasn't been much problem with insects on the fruit trees, although there has been some problem with what I think may be powdery mildew on the fruit. Keeping all fallen fruit cleared away seems to help with that.

We have fruit flies which are a problem, especially with the tomatoes but we put out fruit fly traps and then we are able to grow the big beefsteak type tomatoes.

There hasn't been much problem with spiders, although occasionally it seems crab spiders get crazy about building webs. It doesn't seem to be a constant thing, just occasionally, there's a lot of webs. We use a stick to knock them down and then the spiders seem to go somewhere else.

There was a horned shield bug or some such sap sucking critter which infested the tomatoes last year. I put sulfhur dust on the plants and that seems to have knocked them back. Apparently, one can also use water to spray the bugs off the tomatoes. but by the time I'd found that out the tomatoes were pretty heavily infested. I'm sure there will be a new bug to work past this year, there always seems to be something.

What do you grow in your garden?
