This is such a nice peaceful place compared to Oahu! I could really enjoy living here!

Why is there a turkey walking around outside the dining facility? I thought it was chickens and peacocks but apparently there are feral turkeys, too. And dumb ones.

Up the "hill" there are Erckel's Francolin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia but they're smaller than turkeys. They were introduced as game birds, so I suppose the turkeys were too.

There's a USDA guy on base who's job is basically to keep the bird and the airplanes from flying into each other. He said that's the only turkey he knows of on the island. The thing walks around like she owns the place. (it's protected) He also says there are a couple of birds that, once they stray onto the airfield, get shot on sight , the chicken being one of them. But they make a big effort to drive birds to other areas.
Pretty interesting job he has.
Took a trip up Makaha ridge and saw lots of Nene. Goofy goose-like birds! IT.IS.GORGEOUS up there. WOW. That canyon is breathtaking. What's the scissor-tail bird flying around in that canyon? It's white and pretty!

I do love the island but I'd rather have my sweetie with me. Plus no OT so our workday is shorter. Dang sequestration. Drags the week out. But per diem is good if I can watch my spending.
