Mark Zuckerberg 'buys part of Hawaii' for $100 million
The Facebook chief executive will have an estate befitting a billionaire as he buys up 700 acres on the island of Kauai
He's just the latest. Michael Dell owns the most expensive home in Hawai'i, on the Big Island, and a half dozen more estates around his compound are owned by other wealthy high tech guys. Larry Ellison owns the whole freakin' island of Lanai, including three hotels. And of course Oprah owns a chunk of Maui. Zuckerberg is a little late to the party.

At Kukio, an ultra-exclusive private residential community, homeowners include Michael Dell -- whose 18,500-square-foot Raptor Residence has been valued at more than $64 million -- as well as Paul Hazen, chairman of KKR Financial Holding Corporation and the former chairman and CEO of Wells Fargo.
Hualalai, another exclusive neighborhood on the Kona Coast, counts Ken Griffin, founder of hedge fund Citadel, and Oaktree Capital Management founder and billionaire Howard Marks as homeowners.
When it comes to outrageous real estate, it’s all about the Big Island, where you’ll find nine of the 10 most expensive homes in Hawaii, all strung along the Kona Coast.
We assembled a similar list in 2005, limited to the City and County of Honolulu. Expanding the scope to all of Hawaii has raised the stakes considerably: While the top property in 2005 was assessed at $15.2 million, that number wouldn’t even get you on the bottom rung of this year’s list. The bar starts at $16 million and goes up from there.
Isn't Gilligan's Island off of Kaneohe on Oahu? That's where I heard they did most of the filming.
Wonder what one person can do with 700 acres? Fence it? Run cattle? If you leave it alone, does it get covered in guinea grass? Even though one person "owns" it, don't they need a bunch of other people to keep it up?
Larry Ellison seems to be doing something with Lanai. Folks are hopeful of a good change over there.
Dunno as if 700 acres is enough to do much with as far as changing the social landscape on Kauai, though. I think Parker Ranch on the Island of Hawaii is bigger than that and they pretty much have a town as well as a lot of cows they take care of. They've been doing pretty well taking care of Waimea/Kamuela for the past however many years. Maybe these big tech folks will also be good stewards of the land and people?

From what I have been told, Coconut Island and the Ala Moana boat harbor were used for the opening of the show but the show itself was filmed in California.
Mark Zuckerberg has liars, and sneaky, land stealers as his boys.....
Stealing Native Hawaiian Lands.
This was in the Pacific Business News in February: CEO Mark Zuckerberg has officially dropped his quiet title lawsuits against hundreds of fractional owners of small pieces of land, or kuleana lands, within his 700 acres of oceanfront land he owns on the island of Kauai’s North Shore, which was an attempt to gain ownership of those small pieces of lands, an attorney representing Zuckerberg confirmed to Pacific Business News over the weekend.
In an op-ed piece published in The Garden Island newspaper late last month, the world’s sixth-richest person and his wife, Priscilla Chan, said they were dropping their quiet title actions and would work with the community on a new approach. While that new approach has not yet been revealed, it is now clear that the tech titan has followed through with his effort to not move ahead with his quiet title actions.
