“Cane Fire,” the award-winning documentary film from Anthony Banua-Simon opens today in New York City. The film in part, wants to separate reality from the Hollywood portrayal of Kauai. It tells a different version of the island’s history, rather than the escapist fantasies depicted earlier. We saw this change in the movie, “The Descendants” and also in the documentary, “Taylor Camp.”

White Viper, if you want to know more about the movie, then just Google it. I found an interesting trailer on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hey Mutt, what's your purpose here? Hate tourism? Just want to stir up trouble?

Kaua‘i County is heavily dependent on tourism.

"According to the Kaua‘i Tourism Strategic Plan, Kauai’s visitor industry supports one-third of the island’s economy and 38% of jobs. In 2019, 1.3 million visitors spent a total of $1.9 billion on Kaua‘i."

Considering Kauai is well ahead of pre-pandemic number of tourists - the only island to do so - means the article was a big swing and a miss.
