Hello,

What are some of the good cheap eats on Kauai? We understand that food in general is expensive on Kauai but looking for suggestions on some relatively cheap eats on the island. Not too much worried about service or ambiance. Looking for good filling food at reasonable price.

Thanks.

I have already bookmarked some of the obvious places mentioned in blogs and Yelp. I am looking for anything that is not well known among tourist community and any places that the locals love that are not widely known among tourists. Thanks.

No such thing exists that is not well known among tourists with the internet.

Nothing is no longer hidden. Nothing is still secret. Everything is well known and reviewed - especially in Hawaii.

I'm presuming that the Kauai Costco has a food court. It's one of the best deals around.

I only know a few here around Kapaa because that's where we live.

1. Tiki Taco's...big taco's for $7 to $9 or so depending on what meat you like. I love their fish and tiki fire pork tacos! Hand made tortillas! One taco is filling but I usually have a mucho appetito and order two They have a 2nd location on the South shore but I've never been there.

2. L&L Hawaiian BBQ. Good quality Hawaiian bbq plates and they have brown rice if you prefer. Prices just went up a little but they are good portions. I order the mixed bbq plate, chicken , marinated beef strip, asian bbq ribs. $16.95

3. Pho Kapaa.... great food located in the Safeway shopping center. Haven't been there in a while so I cannot give est. on costs but pretty reasonable place to dine in.

4. Waipouli restaurant...great selection of American and Hawaiian home cooking. Many people claim they have the best Loco Moco on island. Reasonable prices. Cash only at one time but not sure about pay options now?

5. Pono market...great lau lau and a lot of other options for carry out. Pretty reasonable prices.

6. Kountry kitchen, best breakfast on Kauai IMO! Reasonable prices and great service. They don't charge extra for substituting fruit for potatoes. Delicious corn bread instead of toast if you prefer.

Some of the food trucks are not too bad cost wise compared to dinning in a sit down restaurant. We like Anatta's Thai street food trailer in Kapaa near Pono market. Another option is splitting a meal. Bobby V's italian restaurant has super delicious calzones that take up a whole plate. I've split one with a side salad.

Yes, we have a Costco food court. Hot dog and a soda still $1.50, Pizza etc ...but unfortunately they don't have the chicken ceaser salad that other Costco's on the mainland have.

Aloha

We enjoyed Da Crack (Mexican Food) in Kaloa.

It was close to us in Poipu; good, and cheap!

Also, Keoki's Paradise in Poipu. Excellent but not cheap.

At lunch, food is reasonably priced.

That's a hard no from me - and the 2 and 3 star reviews on Yelp reflect it. (And it is a tourist trap)

Instead of a chain, you'd be better served at Mark's Place, Bobbie's, Pono Market, Smiley's, etc........

Agreed. I ate there twice about 8 years ago. Never since. I prefer McDonalds or Taco Bell to L&L.

Where on Kauai? I know Lihue and south. In Lihue, Hamura Saimin, Island Garden BBQ (Chinese BBQ), Deli & Bread Connection, Oki's Best Box, Smiley's Grindz, Mama Lucy's, Mark's Place, the food trucks in Old Koloa Town, Sueoka Snack Shack, Da Crack, Bubba's, Bobbie's in Hanapepe, Porky's Waimea and the hot food delis at Safeway, Times, Foodland, and Ishihara Market.
