"Beautiful": White sand, NOT rocky, just sand, no rocks inside water, clear blue water.

Please advise :-)

thanks.
should the hotel be in Princeville then? is that the same area?
(priceline doesn't recognize Hanalei bay as a city/area)

Princeville is about a 5 minute drive to Hanalei Bay, there are no hotels there but you can get house rentals and think there are some B&B's.

There's a big eyesore of a hotel right on the end of the most eastern tip of the hanalei bay. Its the only one of its kind im sure you could find a room there. There is also some b+bs by hanalei and there is another hotel/resort/art gallery just a bit past hanalei. You should also check out tunnels beach right by there for snorkeling. Was just on kauai for weekend trip a little bit ago, that north shore is so beautiful.

I believe that "eyesore" to which you are referring is the St. Regis Princeville. If you have ever stayed there, you would understand that this is a truly wonderful place and will be even more so after the renovations are over (I am sure the renovations are why you call it an eyesore). You cannot get a room there until October at which point you will have to be willing to pay $500+ a night to stay there.

There are not many true hotels in Hanalei- almost all the properties are timeshare/condo units. You would need to look at sites such as vrbo to book one of these condos. I know Hanalei Bay Resort rents out hotel rooms on Expedia, but do not go that route- those rooms are not the best. Westin Princeville has rooms for rent and is a nice and new property, overlooking Anini. Hanalei Colony Resort also has daily rates, but is very remote (no TVS or phones in the room).

My favorite beach on Kauai is Polihale, which is sandy, not rocky, but is often unswimmable. My favorite white sandy beach is actually on Oahu at Lanikai, however.

Whatever, Well I guess different strokes, I live on Oahu but the when I was there the locals told me it is everything that Kauai is NOT trying to become and has fought hard to prevent. But hey if you have 500+ bucks a night and nothin better to spend it on, go for it. I agree with the fact that lanikai or Kailua beach park is the best white sand beach which is why I live 10 min from it
