I think it is just a level of manners and kindness to others or maybe helpfulness to others that you don't see much except in the south. I do see some of it diminshing where I live though and I really hate that. I wish it could be one thing we hang on to for a while.

I think hospitality and old fashioned manners go hand in hand - I'm not sure parents are imparting those old values to their children to the degree that it was done 20 or 30 years ago....so you see the younger generation not having the same level of respect or gratitude or social graces....working moms and dads, more divorces, less parental involvement, a general degrading of acceptable behaviour standards, etc.

I agree. I will say though that I am happily not one of those parents.
