So you want to give those making a quarter of a million dollars a year and more a yearly tax break of upwards of $40,000? Otherwise you are willing to cut off unemployment compensation for those who have been laid off a year or longer and can't find a job? ha ha ha. Mitch and you are real Americans. Our country is better than what you and Mitch stand for.

You can bet one thing...those (many small business owners) making a quarter million a year and more have and are working for it (and deserve the tax break just as much or more than anyone else) unlike many on unemployment that don't want a job because they are making more not working. I see jobs advertised everyday and yet we see higher unemployment rates...what wrong with this picture?

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

Just for the record I DID NOT have anything with Mitch being elected nor did I with obongo. I think it's time for someone to stand up to the people in this country that's constantly sticking their hands out for the Government to GIVE them something.

I am more American than either one.

Just to be clear, the recent extension will not help the unemployed who have rec'd benefits for 99 weeks so there is a cap to your "or longer" assertion.

There has some some discusion about what to do for the 99ers but nothing has been passed as of now.

On a personal level, I know 2 people that have been collecting unemployment for over a year. Both seem to have the monetary means to be having a great time - going out to eat, traveling, etc. Both could be working but are being selective about which opportunities to pursue - as in some jobs are "beneath" them. Both lived large before their job loss and were poor stewards of their money when employed. One works under the table so he can collect extra money and still receive his unemployment check.

Needless to say, I won't feel bad for them when their unemployment benefits run out. It certainly leaves a sour taste in my mouth (and I know there are more stories like this one out there) as I know some are truly struggling to find meaningful employment.

Also you should really also be critical of government spending - namely entitlement programs - instead of just pointing out how we need higher taxes for the wealthy. That won't be enough to solve the fiscal issues we face.
